چکیده

Salinization of agricultural areas due to intensive practices and irrigation is an important feature limiting crop yield and productivity. Inhibition of plant growth and even plant death by salinity is due to a reduction in water availability, sodium ion accumulation and mineral imbalances. In this context, ROS will be produced in both SALT STRESS AND GLUTATHIONE-DEPENDENT ENZYME ACTIVITIES IN BEAN (PHASEOLUS VULGARIS L.)

High temperature and salt stress response in French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris)

Abiotic stresses, such as high temperature, and salt stress are major factors which reduce crop productivity. Effects of high temperature (46-48° C) and salt stress (0.4 M) on French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris), a major vegetable crop, were evaluated in terms of antioxidants and antioxidant enzymes in S-9 cultivar. Both stresses caused similar responses in the plant. Oxidative stress indicators s...

Polyamines Confer Salt Tolerance in Mung Bean (Vigna radiata L.) by Reducing Sodium Uptake, Improving Nutrient Homeostasis, Antioxidant Defense, and Methylglyoxal Detoxification Systems

The physiological roles of PAs (putrescine, spermidine, and spermine) were investigated for their ability to confer salt tolerance (200 mM NaCl, 48 h) in mung bean seedlings (Vigna radiata L. cv. BARI Mung-2). Salt stress resulted in Na toxicity, decreased K, Ca, Mg, and Zn contents in roots and shoots, and disrupted antioxidant defense system which caused oxidative damage as indicated by incre...

Ascorbate and homoglutathione metabolism in common bean nodules under stress conditions and during natural senescence.

Ascorbate and glutathione are major antioxidants and redox buffers in plant cells but also play key functions in growth, development, and stress responses. We have studied the regulation of ascorbate and homoglutathione biosynthesis in common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) nodules under stress conditions and during aging. The expression of five genes of the major ascorbate biosynthetic pathway was a...

Stress-induced legume root nodule senescence. Physiological, biochemical, and structural alterations.

Nitrate-fed and dark-stressed bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) and pea (Pisum sativum) plants were used to study nodule senescence. In bean, 1 d of nitrate treatment caused a partially reversible decline in nitrogenase activity and an increase in O(2) diffusion resistance, but minimal changes in carbon metabolites, antioxidants, and other biochemical parameters, indicating that the initial decrease in...

Ethylene Biosynthesis and Cadmium Toxicity in Leaf Tissue of Beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.).

Stress ethylene production in bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L., cv. Taylor's Horticultural) leaf tissue was stimulated by Cd(2+) at concentrations above 1 micromolar. Cd(2+)-induced ethylene biosynthesis was dependent upon synthesis of 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) by ACC synthase. Activity of ACC synthase and ethylene production rate peaked at 8 h of treatment. The subsequent decline ...
